Our love for Pet Safety: why pet shelters are important

Pet Shelters provide safety and nourishment for pets that do not have a home yet. They give pets love and encouragement while the right owner comes to adopt them. See below for a testimonial from a loving pet shelter adopter.

Adopting Dora has been one of the most rewarding things that I have done. Not only did I give my homeless cat a home but, she has given me so much more. A Friend for life.

When I moved to Concord in 2020, my new place felt a bit empty, and I quickly realized that I needed a companion to make it feel like home. I decided to check out Buddy Dog, hoping I might meet a pet that would bring some life into my space. Little did I know that my perfect match, a spirited little orange cat, was already there waiting for me.
As soon as I approached her, this tiny whirlwind of personality made her debut. She practically strutted out of her cage, as if saying, “Thanks for finally showing up!” Without hesitation, she marched over to the nearest food bowl—but it wasn’t hers. Nope, she was far more interested in sampling everyone else’s food, ignoring the bowl that was supposed to be for her. And when it came to toys? Forget it! She inspected each and every toy, batting and pouncing on all the others’ playthings, clearly unimpressed with whatever was meant to be hers.

Adopted 2020 from Buddy Dog – visit adoptable cats here

Just when I thought I had a sense of her spunky personality, she took it up a notch. With a quick glance around, she darted past the cages and made a beeline straight for the dog section! There she was, this pint-sized orange fluffball, mingling with dogs ten times her size, completely unfazed. I couldn’t stop laughing as she fearlessly went from nose to nose, as if to say, “Yep, I belong here, too.”

It was clear right then that this wasn’t just any cat—she was a fearless explorer, a social butterfly, and a born entertainer, all rolled into one. She seemed like the kind of cat who would brighten up any room, filling it with her personality, affection, and endless antics. I knew she was exactly what my home needed, and I couldn’t wait to get her home. I often reach out to BuddyDog to thank them for taking care of Dora until I adopted her. They fed her, kept her warm during the winter, gave her the shots she needed and made sure she was healthy before I took her home. I am forever grateful to BuddyDog and reached out to them to confirm I could include them in this article. Please give BuddyDog a visit and consider adopting from No-kill shelters before purchasing a companion.

In response to me reaching out to BuddyDog to give them an update on Dora – “Give her a snuggle from us.” 😽
